Bennie Taylor V

WERA #796

Bennie began his racing career at a very young age as part of the growing sport of pocketbike racing. He was the youngest licensed road racer in the country earning his Expert license through the Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association (OMRRA) after only 2 races. He was once asked if he remembered learning how to ride, and his response was, “No, I don’t. It’s almost like learning to walk I have been riding for so long.”

The plans for 2010 include an entire season of WERA West and USGPRU West with an occasional USGPRU event outside the west coast series on the 125.

In 2009 Bennie took to the track ready to win.  Bennie stood on the podium regularly during the 2009 season.  Bennie led the Wera West 125GP championship most of the season and won the title in the final event in a great season long battle with his competitors.  In addition to his 125 championship Bennie finished x and x (TBD).

In 2008 Bennie spent the season sharpening his skills on the 125gp machines.  Bennie competed in the WERA West series and learned the tracks and hone his racing craft in preparation for the 2009 season of USGPRU and in hopes of entering the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2010.

In 2007 Bennie eagerly awaited the arrival of his two Honda RS 125’s. This season OMRRA ran a five race series introducing a new class called the GP 85 class. Bennie’s father converted one of the 125’s into an 85cc machine where Bennie was able to take the GP 85 class championship  for OMRRA. Bennie also road the NW Mini series and competed in an average of five classes with this club riding a number of bikes. Bennie competed on his Metrakit 50cc in three classes, on his Kawasaki KLX 110 in a class, his RS 85 in a class and the president of the club allowed him to ride his RS 125 GP bike in misc classes to get seat time.  Bennie is already looking forward to the 2008 season.

In 2006 he started the season off with a trip to France and Spain to train with the BMS Factory Pocketbike team. It definitely paid off. Bennie spent the season racing 4 different bikes. The Metrakit had been his premiere bike. He continued to race on his pocketbike adding the KLX 110 motard and a RM65 motard. He has the ability to shift gears and put his all on the line regardless of which bike he is riding. It shows with his podium finishes in as many as 7 classes per day. Bennie took home the Overall 2nd Place Junior title for the second year in a row with OMRRA pocketbikes. His big accomplishment this year is taking 1st in the Junior Thunder class and 2nd Overall with the Northwest Mini Road Racing Association (NMRRA).

Bennie has been in magazines and publications including Cycle News, Moto Kids, and MiniGPX.

In 2005 Bennie moved up a class and he still managed to take home a podium finish on every local race and at most of the away races on his pocketbike. Bennie spent this year learning and preparing to make the transition from pocketbikes to minibikes. He spent time between race weekends practicing on his Metrakit 50cc MiniGP bike to prepare for the 2006 race season.

In 2004 Bennie traveled to many events throughout the country including Florida, Alabama, Las Vegas, and California focusing solely on pocketbike racing. He perfected his skills on the size of machine that would allow him to lean the bike in the corner and remain in control. Nearly every event he attended, he was on the podium. Locally with OMRRA, this was the season he brought home the gold taking the OMRRA Junior Pocketbike Championship for the year.
